  33. USAGE *bufexplorer-usage*
  34. To start exploring in the current window, use: >
  35. <Leader>be or :BufExplorer or Your custom key mapping
  36. To toggle bufexplorer on or off in the current window, use: >
  37. <Leader>bt or :ToggleBufExplorer or Your custom key mapping
  38. To start exploring in a newly split horizontal window, use: >
  39. <Leader>bs or :BufExplorerHorizontalSplit or Your custom key mapping
  40. To start exploring in a newly split vertical window, use: >
  41. <Leader>bv or :BufExplorerVerticalSplit or Your custom key mapping
  42. If you would like to use something other than the default leader key - '\' -
  43. you may simply change the leader (see |mapleader|).
  44. When <Leader>bs or <Leader>bv is issued, bufexplorer opens in either a
  45. horizontally or vertically split window. By issuing either of these commands,
  46. the user is telling bufexplorer that they want to split the window and have
  47. bufexplorer show the buffer they are about to select (from the bufexplorer
  48. windows) in the newly split window. When <Leader>be is issued, bufexplorer
  49. opens the bufexplorer contents in the current window and the buffer the user
  50. selects is opened in the current window.
  51. Note: If the current buffer is modified when bufexplorer started, the current
  52. window is always split and the new bufexplorer is displayed in that new
  53. window.
  54. Commands to use once exploring:
  55. <F1> Toggle help information.
  56. <enter> Opens the buffer that is under the cursor into the current
  57. window.
  58. <leftmouse> Opens the buffer that is under the cursor into the current
  59. window.
  60. <shift-enter> Opens the buffer that is under the cursor in another tab.
  61. a Toggles whether you are taken to the active window when
  62. selecting a buffer or not.
  63. b Fast buffer switching with b<any bufnum>.
  64. B Works in association with the |ShowTabBuffer| option. If
  65. |ShowTabBuffer| is set to 1, this toggles if BufExplorer is to
  66. only store the most recent tab for this buffer or not.
  67. d |:delete| the buffer under the cursor from the list. The
  68. buffer's 'buflisted' is cleared. This allows for the buffer to
  69. be displayed again using the 'show unlisted' command.
  70. D |:wipeout| the buffer under the cursor from the list. When a
  71. buffer is wiped, it will not be shown when unlisted buffers are
  72. displayed.
  73. F Open selected buffer in another window above the current.
  74. f Open selected buffer in another window below the current.
  75. o Opens the buffer that is under the cursor into the current
  76. window.
  77. p Toggles the showing of a split filename/pathname.
  78. q Exit/Close bufexplorer.
  79. r Reverses the order the buffers are listed in.
  80. R Toggles relative path/absolute path.
  81. s Cycle thru how the buffers are listed. Either by buffer
  82. number, file name, file extension, most recently used (MRU), or
  83. full path.
  84. S Cycle thru how the buffers are listed, in reverse order.
  85. Either by buffer number, file name, file extension, most
  86. recently used (MRU), or full path.
  87. t Opens the buffer that is under the cursor in another tab.
  88. T Toggles to show only buffers for this tab or not.
  89. u Toggles the showing of "unlisted" buffers.
  90. V Open the selected buffer in another window on the left of the current.
  91. v Open the selected buffer in another window on the right of the current.
  92. X Toggles the showing of terminal buffers.
  93. Once invoked, Buffer Explorer displays a sorted list (MRU is the default
  94. sort method) of all the buffers that are currently opened. You are then
  95. able to move the cursor to the line containing the buffer's name you are
  96. wanting to act upon. Once you have selected the buffer you would like,
  97. you can then either open it, close it (delete), resort the list, reverse
  98. the sort, quit exploring and so on...

  240. CHANGE LOG *bufexplorer-changelog*
  241. 7.8.0 March 05, 2025
  242. After all these many years, bufexplorer now requires Vim version 7.4 or
  243. greater.
  244. 7.7.0 March 05, 2025
  245. What's Changed
  246. - Another Major patch implemented by Dr. Michael Henry.
  247. https://github.com/jlanzarotta/bufexplorer/pull/121
  248. * Fix issue Bufexplorer MRU sort doesn't work properly if using
  249. restore_session.vim #8 "Bufexplorer MRU sort doesn't work properly if
  250. using restore_session.vim".
  251. * Fix issue Bufexplorer interferes with the startinsert! command #87
  252. "Bufexplorer interferes with the startinsert! command".
  253. * Treat unlisted buffers as least-recently-used instead of
  254. most-recently-used in the MRU sort order.
  255. * Replace the undocumented m key (intended for debugging MRU logic)
  256. with the BufExplorer_eval() and BufExplorer_execute() general
  257. debugging features.
  258. * Improve speed of MRU tracking.
  259. 7.6.0 February 17, 2025
  260. What's Changed
  261. - Another Major patch implemented by Dr. Michael Henry.
  262. https://github.com/jlanzarotta/bufexplorer/pull/119
  263. * Sorting by fullname now depends only on the buffer's absolute path
  264. using a new sorting mechanism. Other sort modes have been converted to
  265. use this mechanism as well.
  266. * Display of directory buffers is now suppressed when
  267. g:bufExplorerShowDirectories == 0 as described in the BufExplorer
  268. documentation.
  269. * Path calculations for the elements in s:types have been normalized.
  270. fullpath now has simplify() applied to normalize paths like
  271. dir/../file. Trailing path separators for directories have been
  272. removed. The shortname <DIRECTORY> for directories has been
  273. eliminated; instead, the directory's basename is used as is done for
  274. files (except for root directories, where the trailing path separator
  275. cannot be removed; a shortname of . is used for this case). A new
  276. element, homepath, has been added to s.types; this is fullpath
  277. shortened for paths in $HOME and without the trailing path separator.
  278. Other displayable paths (path, relativepath, relativename) are
  279. similarly shortened for paths in $HOME.
  280. * Textual substitution of $HOME -> ~ in paths has been eliminated. This
  281. substitution could occur anywhere in the path, not just at the start,
  282. causing undesirable anomalies. Shortening for paths in $HOME is now
  283. done via homename and associated variables from s:types.
  284. * If the devicons plugin is installed, a buffer's buf.isdir status has
  285. been added as a parameter passed to that plugin, allowing the plugin
  286. to supply a directory icon for buffer directories.
  287. * Avoid calculating buffer details until they are needed for display.
  288. Users who don't want to see unlisted buffers shouldn't have to pay
  289. for the expensive work of calculating buffer details for unlisted
  290. buffers, only to have that information ignored. This resolves
  291. bufexplorer is slow to open with many unlisted buffers.

  293. 7.5.0 February 16, 2025
  294. What's Changed
  295. - Major patch implemented by Dr. Michael Henry.
  296. https://github.com/jlanzarotta/bufexplorer/pull/118

  298. demonstrate behaviors described in Github issue #117.
  299. https://github.com/jlanzarotta/bufexplorer/issues/117
  300. This patch includes fixes which also resolves:
  301. - Github issue #81. Previous buffer duplicated in split after openning
  302. new buffer in tab.
  303. https://github.com/jlanzarotta/bufexplorer/issues/81
  304. - Github issue #65. bv plus t does weird things.

  308. 7.4.28 November 5, 2024
  309. - Thanks to GitHub user jsvia, for the addition of the new
  310. bufExplorerShowTerminal feature. Please refer to the documentation
  311. for complete information.
  312. 7.4.27 May 30, 2024
  313. - Thanks to GitHub user NotNormallyAGitUser, for the recommendation to
  314. change the display of the relative path to replace $HOME with "~".
  315. This save valuable screen real estate.

  334. 7.4.24 May 03, 2022
  335. Updated copyright notice.
  336. 7.4.23 January 23, 2022
  337. Merged in changes from benoit-pierre that fixes an error thrown when vim
  338. is in read-only mode.
  339. Merged in changes from tartansandal that implements the use of an
  340. independent variable to track window splitting since s:splitMode != ''
  341. no longer implies that a split was triggered.
  342. 7.4.22 January 5,2022
  343. - Merged in change from nadean that fixed an issue that if you use either
  344. split mode, you could no longer use the regular non-split mode. This was
  345. because the split mode set s:splitMode and that variable was never reset
  346. to "" to allow you run without split mode.
  347. 7.4.21 December 8, 2018
  348. - Merged in changes from adelarsq that introduced ryanoasis/vim-devicons
  349. support. If the global g:loaded_webdevicons has been set, bufexplorer
  350. will now load the associated dev icons for each buffer.
  351. 7.4.20 January 18, 2017
  352. - Thanks to jpflouret for supplying code that can remove the warning
  353. messages if you using this plugin on an older version of Vim. The
  354. global variable is g:bufExplorerVersionWarn.
  355. 7.4.19 September 18, 2017
  356. - Merged all changes from github back into this version and tried to sync
  357. to the correct version number.
  358. 7.4.18 - Github.
  359. 7.4.17 - Github.
  360. 7.4.16 August 14, 2017
  361. - Thanks to Yubo Su for the patch that adds 'f, F, V, and v' commands.
  362. With this change, the original 'f' command was remapped to 'a'.
  363. The set of commands that can be used during exploring are:
  364. F - Open selected buffer in another window above the current.
  365. f - Open selected buffer in another window below the current.
  366. V - Open the selected buffer in another window on the left of the
  367. current.
  368. v - Open the selected buffer in another window on the right of the
  369. current.
  370. 7.4.15 May 01, 2017
  371. - Finally applied the patch submitted by justfalter. This patch is a
  372. backward-compatible fix for the "invalid tab range" bug.
  373. 7.4.14 April 10, 2017
  374. - As suggested by adelarsq way back on January 5th, 2016, a filetype has
  375. been added. There is now 'filetype=bufexplorer'.
  376. 7.4.13 March 08, 2017
  377. - Thanks to devakivamsi for pointing out that even though bufexplorer
  378. turns off line numbers by default within its own window, this did not
  379. work correctly when using WinManager. This has now been corrected.
  380. 7.4.12 September 30, 2016
  381. - Thanks again to Martin Vuille for several more fixes related to making
  382. bufexplorer more tab-friendly.
  383. 7.4.11 September, 20, 2016
  384. - Thanks to Martin Vuille for reworking the per-tab buffer listing code.
  385. Fix for g:bufExplorerShowTabBuffer is not working correctly and other
  386. "gliches" when the ShotTabBuffer option is enabled. For example old
  387. code would not correctly handle adding/deleting a tab that wasn't the
  388. highest-numbered tab.
  389. 7.4.10 August 26, 2016
  390. - Thanks to buddylindsey for fixing a misspelling in the docs.
  391. 7.4.9 April 01, 2016
  392. - Thanks to ivegotasthma for supplying a patch to fix a major issue with
  393. plugin performance when lots of buffers are open.
  394. - Thanks to ershov for the patch to fix grouping of files in ambiguous
  395. sort modes.
  396. - Thanks to PhilRunninger for changing documentation to use <Leader>, in
  397. place of '\'.
  398. 7.4.8 January 27, 2015
  399. - Thanks to Marius Gedminas for fixing up the documentation and correcting
  400. various typos.
  401. 7.4.7 January 20, 2015
  402. - Thanks goes out to Phil Runninger for added the ability to toggle the
  403. bufexplorer list on and off using the :ToggleBufExplorer command, the
  404. map <Leader>bt, and the function ToggleBufExplorer().
  405. 7.4.6 November 03, 2014
  406. - Not sure how, but the file format was converted to Dos instead of Unix.
  407. I converted the file back to Unix.
  408. 7.4.5 October 24, 2014
  409. - Dr Michael Henry suggested to change all noremap commands to nnoremap.
  410. Using noremap is unnecessarily broad and can cause problems, especially
  411. for select mode.
  412. 7.4.4 August 19, 2014
  413. - Revert change where bufexplorer windows was closed even if the target
  414. buffer has not been loaded yet.
  415. 7.4.3 August 13, 2014
  416. - Ivan Ukhov fixed issue with deleting the last window. This update also
  417. fixes as well as another. If you have say, NERDtree open on the left
  418. side and bufexplorer on the right, that bufexplorer would close NERDtree
  419. erroneously thinking that it is closing itself.
  420. - Radoslaw Burny fixed a few bugs that surfaced when bufexplorer is used
  421. within winmanager.
  422. 7.4.2 October 22, 2013
  423. - Added global option g:bufExplorerDisableDefaultKeyMapping. This option
  424. controls weather the default key mappings (\be, \bs, and \bv) are
  425. enabled or not. See documentation for more information.
  426. 7.4.1 October 11, 2013
  427. - First update related to Vim 7.4.
  428. - Changed license text.
  429. - Fixed issue with 'hidden'. If 'hidden' is set, make sure that
  430. g:bufExplorerFindActive is set to 0. Otherwise, when using \bs or \bv,
  431. and selecting a buffer, the original buffer will be switched to instead
  432. of being opened in the newly created windows.
  433. - Added new 'b' mapping when the bufExplorer window is opened. When 'b'
  434. is pressed, the user is prompted for the buffer number to switch to, and
  435. is is then switched to when <CR> is pressed. This allows for somewhat
  436. faster buffer switching instead of using the j and k keys or the mouse
  437. to select the buffer to switch to.
  438. - Removed 'set nolist' from the Initialize() function as well as the
  439. restore of the 'list' setting in the CleanUp() function. These were
  440. causing issues when multiple new files were opened from the command
  441. line. Furthermore, there was really no reason, that I can remember, to
  442. why the 'list' setting was saved, modified, and restored anyways.
  443. - Fixed issue with WinManager integration code not working correctly
  444. anymore.
  445. - Brought back the xnoremap setup for the 'd' and 'D' keys. These were
  446. removed for some reason after version 7.2.8.
  447. - Thanks to all the contributors and testers.
  448. 7.3.6 May 06, 2013
  449. - Removed the 'drop' window command that was causing issue with the
  450. argument-list being modified after the BufExplorer windows was
  451. displayed.
  452. 7.3.5 February 08, 2013
  453. - Michael Henry added the ability to view "No Name" buffers. This
  454. functionality was lost since version 7.3.0. He also did some removal of
  455. "dead" code and cleaned up the code to handle filenames with embedded
  456. '"'.
  457. 7.3.4 January 28, 2013
  458. - Thanks go out to John Szakmeister for finding and fixing a bug in the
  459. RebuildBufferList method. The keepjumps line that clears the list could
  460. potentially reference a backwards range.
  461. 7.3.3 January 14, 2013
  462. - Major cleanup and reorganization of the change log.
  463. - We welcome the return of g:bufExplorerSplitHorzSize and
  464. g:bufExplorerSplitVertSize. When setting these values, anything less
  465. than or equal to 0 causes the split windows size to be determined by
  466. Vim. If for example you want your new horizontal split window 10 rows
  467. high, set g:bufExplorerSplitHorzSize = 10 in your .vimrc. Similar would
  468. be done if wanting a vertical split except you would use the
  469. g:bufExplorerSplitVertSize variable instead.
  470. 7.3.2 December 24, 2012
  471. - Thanks go out to Michael Henry for pointing out that I completely
  472. missed yet another function, ReverseSortSelect(), during the
  473. refactoring. This function has now returned.
  474. 7.3.1 December 06, 2012
  475. - Thanks go out to Brett Rasmussen for pointing out that the feature
  476. added way back in version 7.2.3 by Yuriy Ershov to automatically
  477. reposition the cursor to the line containing the active buffer, was
  478. no longer in the plugin. That bit of code has been re-added and
  479. all is well.
  480. 7.3.0 October 09, 2012
  481. - It has been quite a while since I published a new version and this
  482. is the first version since Vim 7.3 was released. I have put some
  483. time into reworking and cleaning up the code as well as various bug
  484. fixes. Overall, I am hopeful that I not forgotten or lost a feature.
  485. - Thanks to Tim Johnson for testing out this new version.
  486. - I have hopefully allowed for better mapping of the main public
  487. methods as is explained in the |bufexplorer-customization| section
  488. of the documentation.
  489. - Add new 'B', 'o', and 'S' key mappings.
  490. 7.2.8 November 08, 2010
  491. - Thanks to Charles Campbell for integrating bufexplorer with GDBMGR.
  492. http://mysite.verizon.net/astronaut/vim/index.html#GDBMGR
  493. 7.2.7 April 26, 2010
  494. - My 1st attempt to fix the "cache" issue where buffers information
  495. has changed but the cache/display does not reflect those changes.
  496. More work still needs to be done.
  497. 7.2.6 February 12, 2010
  498. - Thanks to Michael Henry for pointing out that I totally forgot to
  499. update the inline help to reflect the previous change to the 'd'
  500. and 'D' keys. Opps!
  501. 7.2.5 February 10, 2010
  502. - Philip Morant suggested switching the command (bwipe) associated
  503. with the 'd' key with the command (bdelete) associated with the 'D'
  504. key. This made sense since the 'd' key is more likely to be used
  505. compared to the 'D' key.
  506. 7.2.4 January 14, 2010
  507. - I did not implement the patch provided by Godefroid Chapelle
  508. correctly. I missed one line which happened to be the most important
  509. one :)
  510. 7.2.3 December 15, 2009
  511. - Hopefully I have not left anyone or anything out :)
  512. - Thanks to David Fishburn for helping me out with a much needed
  513. code overhaul as well as some awesome performance enhancements.
  514. - David also reworked the handling of tabs.
  515. - Thanks to Vladimir Dobriakov for making the suggestions on
  516. enhancing the documentation to include a better explaination of
  517. what is contained in the main bufexplorer window.
  518. - Thanks to Yuriy Ershov for added code that when the bufexplorer
  519. window is opened, the cursor is now positioned at the line with the
  520. active buffer (useful in non-MRU sort modes).
  521. - Yuriy also added the abiltiy to cycle through the sort fields in
  522. reverse order.
  523. - Thanks to Michael Henry for supplying a patch that allows
  524. bufexplorer to be opened even when there is one buffer or less.
  525. - Thanks to Godefroid Chapelle for supplying a patch that fixed
  526. MRU sort order after loading a session.
  527. 7.2.2 November 19, 2008
  528. - Thanks to David L. Dight for spotting and fixing an issue when using
  529. ctrl^. bufexplorer would incorrectly handle the previous buffer so
  530. that when ctrl^ was pressed the incorrect file was opened.
  531. 7.2.1 September 03, 2008
  532. - Thanks to Dimitar for spotting and fixing a feature that was
  533. inadvertently left out of the previous version. The feature was when
  534. bufexplorer was used together with WinManager, you could use the tab
  535. key to open a buffer in a split window.
  536. 7.2.0 August 15, 2008
  537. - For all those missing the \bs and \bv commands, these have now
  538. returned. Thanks to Phil O'Connell for asking for the return of
  539. these missing features and helping test out this version.
  540. - Fixed problem with the bufExplorerFindActive code not working
  541. correctly.
  542. - Fixed an incompatibility between bufexplorer and netrw that caused
  543. buffers to be incorrectly removed from the MRU list.
  544. 7.1.7 December 21, 2007
  545. - TaCahiroy fixed several issues related to opening a buffer in a tab.
  546. 7.1.6 December 01, 2007
  547. - Removed ff=unix from modeline in bufexplorer.txt. Found by Bill
  548. McCarthy.
  549. 7.1.5 November 30, 2007
  550. - Could not open unnamed buffers. Fixed by TaCahiroy.
  551. 7.1.4 November 16, 2007
  552. - Sometimes when a file's path has 'white space' in it, extra buffers
  553. would be created containing each piece of the path. i.e:
  554. opening c:\document and settings\test.txt would create a buffer
  555. named "and" and a buffer named "Documents". This was reported and
  556. fixed by TaCa Yoss.
  557. 7.1.3 November 15, 2007
  558. - Added code to allow only one instance of the plugin to run at a time.
  559. Thanks Dennis Hostetler.
  560. 7.1.2 November 07, 2007
  561. - Dave Larson added handling of tabs.
  562. - Dave Larson removed \bs and \bv commands because these are easier for
  563. the used to create horizontal and vertical windows.
  564. - Fixed a jumplist issue spotted by JiangJun. I overlooked the
  565. 'jumplist' and with a couple calls to 'keepjumps', everything is fine
  566. again.
  567. - Went back to using just a plugin file, instead of both an autoload
  568. and plugin file. The splitting of the file caused issues with other
  569. plugins. So if you have a prior version of bufexplorer that has an
  570. autoload file, please remove autoload\bufexplorer and
  571. plugin\bufexplorer before installing this new version.
  572. - Fixed E493 error spotted by Thomas Arendsen Hein.
  573. - Minor cosmetic changes.
  574. - Minor help file changes.
  575. 7.1.1 August 02, 2007
  576. - A problem spotted by Thomas Arendsen Hein. When running Vim
  577. (7.1.94), error E493 was being thrown.
  578. * Added 'D' for 'delete' buffer as the 'd' command was a 'wipe' buffer.
  579. 7.1.0 August 01, 2007
  580. - Another 'major' update, some by Dave Larson, some by me.
  581. - Making use of 'autoload' now to make the plugin load quicker.
  582. - Removed '\bs' and '\bv'. These are now controlled by the user. The
  583. user can issue a ':sp' or ':vs' to create a horizontal or vertical
  584. split window and then issue a '\be'
  585. - Added handling of tabs.
  586. 7.0.17 July 24, 2007
  587. - Fixed issue with 'drop' command.
  588. - Various enhancements and improvements.
  589. 7.0.16 May 15, 2007
  590. - Fixed issue reported by Liu Jiaping on non Windows systems, which was
  591. ...
  592. Open file1, open file2, modify file1, open bufexplorer, you get the
  593. following error:
  594. --------8<--------
  595. Error detected while processing function
  596. <SNR>14_StartBufExplorer..<SNR>14_SplitOpen:
  597. line 4:
  598. E37: No write since last change (add ! to override)
  599. But the worse thing is, when I want to save the current buffer and
  600. type ':w', I get another error message:
  601. E382: Cannot write, 'buftype' option is set
  602. --------8<--------
  603. 7.0.15 April 27, 2007
  604. - Thanks to Mark Smithfield for suggesting bufexplorer needed to handle
  605. the ':args' command.
  606. 7.0.14 March 23, 2007
  607. - Thanks to Randall Hansen for removing the requirement of terminal
  608. versions to be recompiled with 'gui' support so the 'drop' command
  609. would work. The 'drop' command is really not needed in terminal
  610. versions.
  611. 7.0.13 February 23, 2007
  612. - Fixed integration with WinManager.
  613. - Thanks to Dave Eggum for another update.
  614. * Fix: The detailed help didn't display the mapping for toggling
  615. the split type, even though the split type is displayed.
  616. * Fixed incorrect description in the detailed help for toggling
  617. relative or full paths.
  618. * Deprecated s:ExtractBufferNbr(). Vim's str2nr() does the same
  619. thing.
  620. * Created a s:Set() function that sets a variable only if it hasn't
  621. already been defined. It's useful for initializing all those
  622. default settings.
  623. * Removed checks for repetitive command definitions. They were
  624. unnecessary.
  625. * Made the help highlighting a little more fancy.
  626. * Minor reverse compatibility issue: Changed ambiguous setting
  627. names to be more descriptive of what they do (also makes the code
  628. easier to follow):
  629. Changed bufExplorerSortDirection to bufExplorerReverseSort
  630. Changed bufExplorerSplitType to bufExplorerSplitVertical
  631. Changed bufExplorerOpenMode to bufExplorerUseCurrentWindow
  632. * When the BufExplorer window closes, all the file-local marks are
  633. now deleted. This may have the benefit of cleaning up some of the
  634. jumplist.
  635. * Changed the name of the parameter for StartBufExplorer from
  636. "split" to "open". The parameter is a string which specifies how
  637. the buffer will be open, not if it is split or not.
  638. * Deprecated DoAnyMoreBuffersExist() - it is a one line function
  639. only used in one spot.
  640. * Created four functions (SplitOpen(), RebuildBufferList(),
  641. UpdateHelpStatus() and ReSortListing()) all with one purpose - to
  642. reduce repeated code.
  643. * Changed the name of AddHeader() to CreateHelp() to be more
  644. descriptive of what it does. It now returns an array instead of
  645. updating the window directly. This has the benefit of making the
  646. code more efficient since the text the function returns is used a
  647. little differently in the two places the function is called.
  648. * Other minor simplifications.
  649. 7.0.12 November 30, 2006
  650. - MAJOR Update. This version will ONLY run with Vim version 7.0 or
  651. greater.
  652. - Dave Eggum has made some 'significant' updates to this latest
  653. version:
  654. * Added BufExplorerGetAltBuf() global function to be used in the
  655. user's rulerformat.
  656. * Added g:bufExplorerSplitRight option.
  657. * Added g:bufExplorerShowRelativePath option with mapping.
  658. * Added current line highlighting.
  659. * The split type can now be changed whether bufexplorer is opened
  660. in split mode or not.
  661. * Various major and minor bug fixes and speed improvements.
  662. * Sort by extension.
  663. - Other improvements/changes:
  664. * Changed the help key from '?' to <F1> to be more 'standard'.
  665. * Fixed splitting of vertical bufexplorer window.
  666. - Hopefully I have not forgot something :)
  667. 7.0.11 March 10, 2006
  668. - Fixed a couple of highlighting bugs, reported by David Eggum.
  669. - Dave Eggum also changed passive voice to active on a couple of
  670. warning messages.
  671. 7.0.10 March 02, 2006
  672. - Fixed bug report by Xiangjiang Ma. If the 'ssl' option is set,
  673. the slash character used when displaying the path was incorrect.
  674. 7.0.9 February 28, 2006
  675. - Martin Grenfell found and eliminated an annoying bug in the
  676. bufexplorer/winmanager integration. The bug was were an
  677. annoying message would be displayed when a window was split or
  678. a new file was opened in a new window. Thanks Martin!
  679. 7.0.8 January 18, 2006
  680. - Thanks to Mike Li for catching a bug in the WinManager integration.
  681. The bug was related to the incorrect displaying of the buffer
  682. explorer's window title.
  683. 7.0.7 December 19, 2005
  684. - Thanks to Jeremy Cowgar for adding a new enhancement. This
  685. enhancement allows the user to press 'S', that is capital S, which
  686. will open the buffer under the cursor in a newly created split
  687. window.
  688. 7.0.6 November 18, 2005
  689. - Thanks to Larry Zhang for finding a bug in the "split" buffer code.
  690. If you force set g:bufExplorerSplitType='v' in your vimrc, and if you
  691. tried to do a \bs to split the bufexplorer window, it would always
  692. split horizontal, not vertical.
  693. - Larry Zhang also found that I had a typeo in that the variable
  694. g:bufExplorerSplitVertSize was all lower case in the documentation
  695. which was incorrect.
  696. 7.0.5 October 18, 2005
  697. - Thanks to Mun Johl for pointing out a bug that if a buffer was
  698. modified, the '+' was not showing up correctly.
  699. 7.0.4 October 03, 2005
  700. - Fixed a problem discovered first by Xiangjiang Ma. Well since I've
  701. been using vim 7.0 and not 6.3, I started using a function (getftype)
  702. that is not in 6.3. So for backward compatibility, I conditionaly use
  703. this function now. Thus, the g:bufExplorerShowDirectories feature is
  704. only available when using vim 7.0 and above.
  705. 7.0.3 September 30, 2005
  706. - Thanks to Erwin Waterlander for finding a problem when the last
  707. buffer was deleted. This issue got me to rewrite the buffer display
  708. logic (which I've wanted to do for sometime now).
  709. - Also great thanks to Dave Eggum for coming up with idea for
  710. g:bufExplorerShowDirectories. Read the above information about this
  711. feature.
  712. 7.0.2 March 25, 2005
  713. - Thanks to Thomas Arendsen Hein for finding a problem when a user
  714. has the default help turned off and then brought up the explorer. An
  715. E493 would be displayed.
  716. 7.0.1 March 10, 2005
  717. - Thanks to Erwin Waterlander for finding a couple problems.
  718. The first problem allowed a modified buffer to be deleted. Opps! The
  719. second problem occurred when several files were opened, BufExplorer
  720. was started, the current buffer was deleted using the 'd' option, and
  721. then BufExplorer was exited. The deleted buffer was still visible
  722. while it is not in the buffers list. Opps again!
  723. 7.0.0 March 10, 205
  724. - Thanks to Shankar R. for suggesting to add the ability to set
  725. the fixed width (g:bufExplorerSplitVertSize) of a new window
  726. when opening bufexplorer vertically and fixed height
  727. (g:bufExplorerSplitHorzSize) of a new window when opening
  728. bufexplorer horizontally. By default, the windows are normally
  729. split to use half the existing width or height.
  730. 6.3.0 July 23, 2004
  731. - Added keepjumps so that the jumps list would not get cluttered with
  732. bufexplorer related stuff.
  733. 6.2.3 April 15, 2004
  734. - Thanks to Jay Logan for finding a bug in the vertical split position
  735. of the code. When selecting that the window was to be split
  736. vertically by doing a '\bv', from then on, all splits, i.e. '\bs',
  737. were split vertically, even though g:bufExplorerSplitType was not set
  738. to 'v'.
  739. 6.2.2 January 09, 2004
  740. - Thanks to Patrik Modesto for adding a small improvement. For some
  741. reason his bufexplorer window was always showing up folded. He added
  742. 'setlocal nofoldenable' and it was fixed.
  743. 6.2.1 October 09, 2003
  744. - Thanks goes out to Takashi Matsuo for added the 'fullPath' sorting
  745. logic and option.
  746. 6.2.0 June 13, 2003
  747. - Thanks goes out to Simon Johann-Ganter for spotting and fixing a
  748. problem in that the last search pattern is overridden by the search
  749. pattern for blank lines.
  750. 6.1.6 May 05, 2003
  751. - Thanks to Artem Chuprina for finding a pesky bug that has been around
  752. for sometime now. The <esc> key mapping was causing the buffer
  753. explored to close prematurely when vim was run in an xterm. The <esc>
  754. key mapping is now removed.
  755. 6.1.5 April 28, 2003
  756. - Thanks to Khorev Sergey. Added option to show default help or not.
  757. 6.1.4 March 18, 2003
  758. - Thanks goes out to Valery Kondakoff for suggesting the addition of
  759. setlocal nonumber and foldcolumn=0. This allows for line numbering
  760. and folding to be turned off temporarily while in the explorer.
  761. 6.1.3 March 11, 2003
  762. - Added folding.
  763. - Did some code cleanup.
  764. - Added the ability to force the newly split window to be temporarily
  765. vertical, which was suggested by Thomas Glanzmann.
  766. 6.1.2 November 05, 2002
  767. - Now pressing the <esc> key will quit, just like 'q'.
  768. - Added folds to hide winmanager configuration.
  769. - If anyone had the 'C' option in their cpoptions they would receive
  770. a E10 error on startup of BufExplorer. cpo is now saved, updated and
  771. restored. Thanks to Charles E Campbell, Jr.
  772. - Attempted to make sure there can only be one BufExplorer window open
  773. at a time.
  774. 6.1.1 March 28, 2002
  775. - Thanks to Brian D. Goodwin for adding toupper to FileNameCmp. This
  776. way buffers sorted by name will be in the correct order regardless of
  777. case.
  778. 6.0.16 March 14, 2002
  779. - Thanks to Andre Pang for the original patch/idea to get bufexplorer
  780. to work in insertmode/modeless mode (evim).
  781. - Added Initialize and Cleanup autocommands to handle commands that
  782. need to be performed when starting or leaving bufexplorer.
  783. 6.0.15 February 20, 2002
  784. - Srinath Avadhanulax added a patch for winmanager.vim.
  785. 6.0.14 February 19, 2002
  786. - Fix a few more bug that I thought I already had fixed.
  787. - Thanks to Eric Bloodworth for adding 'Open Mode/Edit in Place'.
  788. - Added vertical splitting.
  789. 6.0.13 February 05, 2002
  790. - Thanks to Charles E Campbell, Jr. for pointing out some embarrassing
  791. typos that I had in the documentation. I guess I need to run the
  792. spell checker more :o)
  793. 6.0.12 February 04, 2002
  794. - Thanks to Madoka Machitani, for the tip on adding the augroup command
  795. around the MRUList autocommands.
  796. 6.0.11 January 26, 2002
  797. - Fixed bug report by Xiangjiang Ma. '"=' was being added to the search
  798. history which messed up hlsearch.
  799. 6.0.10 January 14, 2002
  800. - Added the necessary hooks so that the Srinath Avadhanula's
  801. winmanager.vim script could more easily integrate with this script.
  802. - Tried to improve performance.
  803. 6.0.9 December 17, 2001
  804. - Added MRU (Most Recently Used) sort ordering.
  805. 6.0.8 December 03, 2001
  806. - Was not resetting the showcmd command correctly.
  807. - Added nifty help file.
  808. 6.0.7 November 19, 2001
  809. - Thanks to Brett Carlane for some great enhancements. Some are added,
  810. some are not, yet. Added highlighting of current and alternate
  811. filenames. Added splitting of path/filename toggle. Reworked
  812. ShowBuffers().
  813. - Changed my email address.
  814. 6.0.6 September 05, 2001
  815. - Copyright notice added. Needed this so that it could be distributed
  816. with Debian Linux.
  817. - Fixed problem with the SortListing() function failing when there was
  818. only one buffer to display.
  819. 6.0.5 August 10, 2001
  820. - Fixed problems reported by David Pascoe, in that you where unable to
  821. hit 'd' on a buffer that belonged to a files that no longer existed
  822. and that the 'yank' buffer was being overridden by the help text when
  823. the bufexplorer was opened.
  824. 6.0.4 July, 31, 2001
  825. - Thanks to Charles Campbell, Jr. for making this plugin more plugin
  826. *compliant*, adding default keymappings of <Leader>be and <Leader>bs
  827. as well as fixing the 'w:sortDirLabel not being defined' bug.

  833. - Initial release.
  834. ===============================================================================
  835. TODO *bufexplorer-todo*
  836. - Add ability to open a buffer in a horizontal or vertical split after the
  837. initial bufexplorer window is opened.
  838. ===============================================================================

  843. helped and gave me suggestions. I wouldn't want to leave anyone out so I
  844. won't list names.
